Lights Out was an animated short from late 2012 and was one of my favorite pieces to work on. The idea for the story came from wondering what lights felt like when they were left on all night, and how incredibly annoying it must be if it happens all the time.
I did some rough storyboards to figure out my camera angles and flush out the story before I started animating. While designing the Luxo Lamp, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible to give it a cartoony feel and to keep the rig relatively easy. The set was kitbashed from an earlier modeling project, which gave me more time to focus on the animation performance.
Below are the storyboards and render sequence.
